Danielle Soucie

Textiles • Natural Dyes

Black and white image of an artist sitting at her loom. She wears glasses and an apron. The light casts in upon the window creating shadows on her.

Earthborn Textiles is the studio of Danielle Soucie. Each naturally dyed and handwoven textile evolves from her intrinsic curiosity for the natural world. Her exploration within conceptual textiles is a representation of trauma and how that trauma looks and feels within the body.

Danielle lives on the Təmxʷúlaʔxʷ of the Sinixt peoples. Argenta, BC is home, where she lives in a tiny house with her partner, photographer Louis Bockner. She loves and cares for her alpacas Penny, Canella, Fran + Theo on the same land. These animals are the source of the fibres she uses to create a textural experience in her textiles. The forest outside her front door is home to lichen, fungi, barks, cones and flora which she forages for in honourable harvest and is the source of inspiration for her art. The dye garden is a place of refuge where she continuously learns about the plants and how to use them to preserve life in colour and texture.
