Field Notes: Bast Fibres

Welcome to a growing archive of my hands-on research into bast fibres—those strong, flexible strands hidden within the inner bark of plants like flax, nettle, fireweed, and dogbane. This space is part journal, part process log, and part love letter to the land I live and work on.

Here, I document experiments in planting, harvesting, retting, and spinning these fibres, alongside reflections on the cultural histories and ecological roles of each plant. Some entries will be messy, some methodical, all rooted in curiosity and care.

Whether you're a fellow fibre nerd, a grower, or just bast-fibre-curious, I invite you to dig in, follow along, and maybe even get your hands dirty too.
